to immediately lift as it can spread any disease from one pet to another pet or

T06Adding supplement to food
(Whole Food)
Supplements should be added in the food such as Livoferol,
& Multivitamin based on the following schedule
Monday (Morning & Evening)- Livoferol
Tuesday (Morning & Evening)- Multivitamin
Wednesday (Morning & Evening)- Livoferol
Thursday (Morning & Evening)- Multivitamin
Friday (Morning & Evening)- Livoferol

T07Feeding of Treatment, Recovery,
Permanent, Puppy, Isolation,
Observation & Outside area
It’s the duty of the compounder and caretakers to ensure all the
pets are fed well and any pet not eating food, should be recorded in
the RMS and should inform the Veterinarian or Compounder
at the earliest. No employee should touch the objects or dogs
with foodie hands as it will attract flies.
Adults– Half bowl should be fed (250 gms)
Puppy– Quarter bowl should fed (50- 100 gms)

Imp: No left-over food should be mixed back in the vessel; this
will increase the infection in pets.

Feeding of Treatment, Isolation & Observation ward
Important:
• No left-over food should be mixed back in the vessel, this will
increase the infection in pets.
• No bowls of CD / Rabies should be washed together with other ward bowls.
• Always these bowls should be washed after all the other ward
bowls are washed and maintain separate bowls for feeding

T08Feeding of pets who are not
eating food
Any pet who is not eating regular chicken rice, should be tried
the following food. Few of the pets are not used to eating the
Chicken Rice as the pets come from the streets are mostly fed
biscuits, milk and breads.

1. Chicken rice
2. Chicken or Liver Only
3. Wet Pedigree- Half packet of wet pedigree should be mixed with chicken rice
4. Diluted Curd- Ratio 1:1
5. Dry Pedigree
6. Biscuits (Parle-G/ Marie lite)

Paralyzed pets who are unable to walk or stand or unable to lift
their head should be hand fed.

Hand feeding should be done with supervision; ensure you lift
the pet’s head to 90 degrees angle else to food will enter the
pet’s windpipe and the pet may choke and die. 

Biscuits / Dry pedigree should be put on the ground and left for
few hours to check if the dog is willing to eat or not.

Imp: No left-over food should be mixed back in the vessel, this will increase the infection in dogs.

T09Watering plantsWatering of plants should be as followed:
1. Summer- twice daily
2. Winter- Once daily
3. Rainy season- As required (Please consult with the manager)
T10Releasing chained petsAll the pets who were chained before the feeding should be
released freely

T11Record making of FeedingCaretakers or Compounders should make a note in RMS of all the
shelter pets who are not eating food including permanent area,
isolation area, recovery area, treatment area, puppy ward etc.
should inform the veterinarian at the earliest

T12Picking up of vessels and

It’s the duty of the Caretakers to put bleaching powder and
keep the vessel ready for soaking with bleaching powder

T13Office cleaning• Office should be broom first and then vacuum cleaned.
• All the objects such as chairs, tables, monitor, couch etc. should be
cleaned with dry or wet cloth depending on the severity
• After the office is cleaned with vacuum cleaner it should be then
cleaned with phenyl & remove any stains from the tiles.
When: Morning
T14Lifting potty from Permanent
ward
When ever their is potty on the ground, it’s the caretaker’s duty
to immediately lift as it can spread any disease from one pet to another pet or
to humans
When: Every time it gets dirty
T15Sweeping of permanent areaSweeping of the ground should be done to pick up waste such as
plastic or paper, picking potty, leaves, any stones etc.
When: Morning
T16Leaving the chained pets to
roam freely
The pets who are paralyzed, can be kept on the pet bed freely
under the shade, this will help them to Improve psychologically.

Note: No paralyzed pet should be left unattended for more than 2 hours as the Sun rotates, the pet
may not get shade throughout the day

T17Paralyzed pet’s position
changing –
Treatment, Observation &
Isolation ward
• Shifting the position of the pets who are paralyzed every 2
hours. This is to avoid any bed sores and comfort the pet.
• Always consult with the veterinarian or compounder to
understand where the fracture location is!
• If the pet has only spine injury, hold the legs and turn the
position, if both the legs and spine is injured,
always seek other caretakers help to gently shift the position.

Note: Always handle pets with care and ensure you are not
holding the pets at fractured location such as spine or legs.
Always hold the neck skin and hip skin to change the position.
When: Every 2 hours daily
T18Bringing the pets out from
treatment, isolation, puppy,
observation ward before
washing
Any pet who is paralyzed or having open wounds on the
legs, should be brought out of the treatment area before
washing. This keeps the wounds dry and heals faster else causes the
infection or the pet may die.

Important: No pet from the cage should be taken out during
cleaning until the veterinarian or compounder informs.
When: Morning
T19Helping in washing (Recovery,
Permanent, Puppy, Isolation,
Treatment & Outside area)
It’s the duty of the helper to help the cleaner in moving the pets
away from the water or getting wet

T20Washing of all pet food & water
bowls
All food bowls and water bowls should be cleaned using bleaching powder.
Pet food bowls should be soaked in bleaching powder for at least 30 mins before washing with dish soap.
When: Morning and evening
T21Adding wheelchair to paralyzed
pets
All the Paralyzed pets who are able to use front legs and are
paralyzed from hind legs should be put on wheelchair.
When: Morning, afternoon and evening for an hour
T22Cleaning of tiles (Treatment,
Recovery, Puppy, Observation,
Isolation, Kitchen
& Outside ward)
1 tablespoon of bleach per liter of water should be mixed in the
drum based on number of liters the drum is.
And add 1ml of concentrated phenyl per 10 liters of water.
• Use of phenyl & bleach helps in disinfecting the area to kill bacteria
and other germs.

Important:
Water should not fall on the dogs who are undertreatment, need to be very
careful during the wash. Neither any dog should be bath during
the washing of the tiles.

T23Washing of all pet beds
(Treatment,
Recovery, Puppy, Observation
& Isolation)
Washing of pet cooling beds should be cleaned regularly during
cleaning of tiles.

T24Changing of pets blanketsAll the pets blankets should be changed as and when they get dirty

T25Arranging the pet beds for
all pets
All the pet beds should be kept in a single row. No pet beds
should be kept on the top of the cage & should be utilized to
keep the paralyzed pets.
When: Everyday
T26Putting back pets inside after
cleaning
The pets which were taken out of the Treatment, Isolation, Observation ward should be
put back.

NOTE: Always handle pets with care and ensure you are not
holding the pets at fractured location such as spine
or legs. Always hold the neck skin and hip skin to move the pets back to their area.
When: Morning
T27Watering the pet bowls (Whole
Shelter & Outside)
Need to check the water availability in all the bowls of the shelter such as Treatment area, Recovery area,
Permanent area, Puppy area, Railing’s area, Isolation area, Observation ward & Outside
1 Spoon of Glucose should be added in each bowl only for all area pets.

Number of bowls should be kept in every area:
1. Treatment area- Every cage & outside cages 10 bowls
2. Recovery area- 5 bowls
3. Permanent area- 10 bowls inside area
4. Puppy area- 3 bowls
5. Isolation area- Every cage & outside cages 5 bowls
6. Outside- 1 bowl
Note: Inside area the bowls should be kept 8 to 10 feet away for Treatment, Recovery, Puppy and Isolation.
Permanent inside area the bowls should be 20 feet away
When: Morning, afternoon & evening
T28Arranging the plants in order
of the gate
All the plants much be rearranged after cleaning of tiles and kept in an order
When: Everyday
T29Washing of all the kitchen
vessels
(Tubs, Buckets, cooking utensils)
All the vessels used for cooking, pouring food, buckets and tubs
should be cleaned with surf or soap and remove any stains.
Both inside and outside the vessel should be cleaned.
When: Morning & evening
T30Cooking food and chicken soup
for shelter pets
• Chicken should be washed before preparing the food. Food
should always be freshly cooked and ensure no previous
left-over food is being added to the fresh food.

• Apart from the pet food ingredients, no other ingredients should be added like onion,
chocolates, salt, sugar etc
When: Morning and evening
T31Snacks feeding- Whole Shelter
Pets
These pets should be fed either biscuits, treats, bread or dry pedigree in small
quantities for each pet for the healthy pets only.
When: Afternoon
T32Puppy Ward feeding All the puppies should be fed three to four times a day
depending on the age, kindly seek veterinarian
or compounder advise before feeding any food and check for the quantity.
When: 3-4 times a day
T33Tick-Free spray4ml of Butox should be used per 1 liter of water
Fragrance can be added optionally
• Above chemical should be used in cages, sheets, walls, corners, back & behind cages, tiles,
ground of Treatment, Recovery, Office(s), Puppy, Observation, Isolation, Kitchen and
Permanent area of every corner of the shelter were the chances of ticks hiding are more.
• While using the spray inside the cages, kindly ensure NO
water bowls are present else the water may turn to poison and
may cause toxic to pets.
• Butox is used to keep the flies away and kill any ticks & fleas.
• Fragrance is used to keep away foul smell

NOTE: Butox is toxic to pets and should be used carefully and
should not fall in water bowls or food bowls.
When: Alternate days
T34Washing of pets blankets
(Treatment, Recovery,
Puppy, Observation & Isolation)
All the pets bed sheets should be washed thoroughly with
washing powder & 2 ml of phenyl in washing machine.

These bed sheets should not be mixed with another ward’s pets bed
sheets as this may cause cross infection & should be washed in next
round

T35Hand feeding of water in
Treatment,
Observation & Isolation ward
for paralyzed pets
Water needs to be provided for all paralyzed pets by lifting their head upwards gently. 1 Spoon
of Glucose should be added in each bowl.
The caretaker must be gentle with the paralyzed pets and be
patient while handling
When: Morning, afternoon and evening
T36Physiotherapy to paralyzed pets
T37Bathing pets / playing games
with pets
• Minimum 4 pets should be bath everyday using regular
shampoo unless advised by the veterinarian or compounder
or the manager. And should be recorded in the RMS.
• For skin infection pets, medicinal shampoo must be used, and at the last
Butox must be used to rinse off the pet and let it dry. (Kindly seek
veterinarian or manager’s permission for dilution ratio)
• Playing games with the pets includes football, giving toys to
play and should be lifted back after the time-up

T38Pet walking of Breed & Chained petsPets which are tied up all day long due to aggression with people or other
pets should be taken for the walk of 15 mins each
outside the shelter.
When: Afternoon
T39Keeping the pets back in the
Treatment, Puppy, Observation & Isolation ward
All the isolated pets should be kept back inside the cage and
locked before leaving for the day.
When: Everyday Evening
T40Spotting Bloody PottyIf any of the caretakers spot the bloody potty, they should inform the
veterinarian and the manager immediately.
T41Pet burial upload in RMS• Any deceased pet should be moved from its area and to be kept
in the respective death area with a cloth covered its body.

• All the deceased pets should be buried on the same day with a pit dogged 2 feet down
and width depending
on the size of the dog. The photo of all the dog(s) buried should be upload
in the RMS.
When: As the burial happens
T42Keeping all the things back to
its place
All the daily usage products or things must be kept back in its
place before leaving for the day, this avoids being chewed by the pets.
Products such as- Treatment Records/ files, storeroom items,
kitchen products, clinic items etc.
When: Everyday evening
T43Sick pet check- Open wound /
maggot wound (Whole Shelter)
Finding any pets who are unwell, open wounds/ maggot
wounds and it’s the duty of the caretakers to inform the
veterinarian or compounder and the manager immediately.
When: Everyday Morning & Evening
T44Throwing
of potty & garbage
All the garbage and potty collected of the day should be
discarded in the evening else it will cause infection inside the
shelter to people and animals too.

All the potty should be thrownbehind the shelter without plastic bag.

T45Attendance Logout• It’s the duty of every employee to enter their every day’s
attendance by punching in the attendance system of login and
log out time.

0Turning on gate lightsGate lights should be turned on everyday in the evening and
should be turned off everyday in the morning
0Turning on/ off water motorOnly 2 People will be allowed to use the Water Motor to Turn
on, the motor should be turned on for only 10 mins. Once the
motor is used, it’s the duty of the respective staff to keep the
water pipe hanged in its place.
030 Mins or 1 hour Break• Should inform manager or veterinarian before taking a break.
Every employee should also mention the logout and login time in the RMS
• Break timings is not fixed for the compounders or para-vets as
anytime emergency may arise.
• It’s the duty of the compounder or para-vet to seek the
permission of the veterinarian before taking a break.
At any point of time, if the compounder or caretakers or driver is unable to take the full
1st break of 30 mins or 1 hour, they can carry forward to the 2nd break only for the number
of mins the break is pending.
